Chapter 11

StellaLuna followed the path that followed the creek not very far, when she saw Scheherazade where Bluegie Bear said she would be. She was in the middle of telling a story, and as she told it, her voice would change to fit the current character in the story … but it always went back to the same beautiful voice for the narration. StellaLuna sat down in front of her, but there for a few seconds when Scheherazade stopped telling the story, looked at her and said, “Hello”.

“Hello,” said StellaLuna. “I didn't mean to interrupt the story. I’m looking for Scheherazade the storyteller, and I heard you telling a story, so I knew you must be her. My name is StellaLuna. Is that part of the long story?”

“No, it’s not,” said Scheherazade softly. “I am working on tonight’s after story. Every few days, after the day’s last telling, I tell a much, much, much shorter story. One that can be told in less than a 28th of a day … not in many years. I have quite a selection of short stories to choose from, and I’m always gathering more, but before I tell one, I like to practice the voices in the story as I imagine them to be. My friend BluegieBear always comes up with some wonderful music to go with the story. He is such a gifted musician. Did you see BluegieBear on your way?”

“Yes,” said StellaLuna. “He told me that you might be able to help me. He said Lost has found me, and that you might be able to help me to lose Lost … and that you know many stories where Lost has found others, and they eventually lost Lost.

“Yes, I do know some stories about where Lost has found someone and they eventually found their way”, said Scheherazade. “Usually they had to find something, and some of them had to go on quite the adventure that took several years to do so.”

"I really like this adventure to end today, not in years,” said StellaLuna. “Do you know Homer the storyteller? I met him earlier today. Maybe you could tell me how to get back to him.”

“I know of Homer,” said Scheherazade. “He is two storytellers away, a little left of this morning's sun. The path that you are on doesn’t follow the Sun though, and I am not sure which way you should go, or which paths you should turn onto, to get you there. However, if you continue on this path and stay right, you will end up on the path called Witch Way, which will lead you to the tree witch of the northwest woods, Locasta. She is very old and very wise … and she is a lot closer in distance and in time. Before she laid down to rest and became a nurse log, she was the oldest and greatest storyteller in these woods. She would be a lot more helpful than I currently am.”

“Aren’t witches scary and bad?” said StellaLuna. “Eat little kids and make magic potions”.

“Only the ones in fables,” said Scheherazade. “All the tree witches that I know of are good and wise. They do tend to like their privacy though, maybe that’s why they created some of the stories to make them seem less than good … keep the fools at bay.”

“Ok, follow this path and stay right to find Witch Way and Locasta! Thank you for your help,” said StellaLuna as she began to follow the path towards Witch Way.

“ Good luck, I hope she can help. Time will tell if you are on the right path,” said Scheherazade as StellaLuna continued on her adventure.
